Dear HONY,My name is Riley and I’m from Honolulu. Me and my girlfriend went to the same high school, but I go to school in Chicago and she goes to school in New York. We’ve been together 5 months total, but we’ve only spent 2 weeks together in person. It sucks horribly. As if this wasn’t difficult enough, she’s interning in NYC. I’m spending most of my money to come up to NYC to visit her for a few days, it’s going to be the only time I get to see her until the winter. The problem is that she’s staying in an all women’s dorm and I didn’t have enough money to book a hotel for the entire time I’m in New York… So we’re going to try sneak me into her dorm in a suitcase. Nobody believes that I can/will actually do this so I’d love it if you could take a picture of the attempt, at least to prove that it actually happened.-RileyI can confirm the mission was successful, though the security guard did seem a little perplexed that a small girl was dragging a 150 lb suitcase through the lobby, six inches at a time.

You’ve Got the Love

“Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air
I know I can count on you
Sometimes I feel like saying “Lord I just don’t care”
But you’ve got the love I need To see me through” -Florence & the Machine

You know, sometimes you just have to try to make things work for yourself. It’s the whole “grab life by the horns” motto. And well, I did that. My plan was buy a one way ticket to New York, get a job asap, meet people, and eventually become a true New Yorker. But life has tends to make its own plans. Now I’ve only been here for about three weeks now but I’m still currently residing in the unemployment line. Clearly, I didn’t want that and it’s not like I haven’t been trying. It’s just that a lot of times you have to wait on someone, which frankly sucks. That doesn’t mean you get to quit. So instead of me waiting around for a phone call from a manager who offered me a job unofficially, I went looking for more options. And who would have guessed that my timing could be more than impeccable when I ran into the hiring manager at Baker’s and wants me to go for an interview tomorrow. I haven’t secured the job, but it just goes to show that you’ve got to put in a little work to accomplish what you want. It also helps when the big guy in the clouds has the love.
